Useful information
Payment cards and PIN code
Payments at the school are made via payment cards or MobilePay. Any form of payment card is strictly personal and must be stored securely in a locked place. It is not allowed to hand over or lend your credit card to others, and you should never share your PIN code or any other codes with others.
Bicycles
Bicycles are brought at your own risk, and we recommend that students label their bicycles with their name. Bicycles may only be parked in the bike racks and should be stored in the bike room when not in use.
Pets
It is NOT allowed to have pets in the rooms.
Spending and pocket money
We rarely experience problems with students' spending while they are at school. On the contrary, they often have the ability to appreciate smaller events in the student houses. This is an attitude we wish to nurture in cooperation with the parents, and from the school's side, we strive to prevent students from developing extravagant habits.
If a student manages their money wisely, there is sometimes room for a little extra, such as a trip to the cinema or dining out for a birthday or similar occasion. However, it is not acceptable if a student is constantly buying extra clothes, electronic devices, or frequently eating out, ordering pizza without thought, taking taxis, etc.
Parents should be aware that dinner invitations, parties, and spending during travel weekends can contribute to creating an undesirable status among the other students. The school aims to maintain equal conditions for all students and asks parents and families to support this approach.
Birthdays
Parents have the option to order a birthday treat for a boarder's birthday. This package can include a birthday cake, layer cake, or birthday buns, along with hot chocolate or soda.
Hunting and firearms
It is prohibited to bring weapons to the school. Students interested in hunting can obtain the headmaster's permission to store their hunting firearms securely at Herlufsholm during the hunting and clay pigeon shooting season. Please contact the headmaster’s office for more information well in advance before bringing hunting firearms to the school.
Chemicals
It is prohibited to have chemicals, toxins, and flammable liquids in the rooms.
Refrigerator, kettle etc.
It is NOT allowed to have a refrigerator, toaster, or other kitchen appliances in the rooms. A small coffee maker or kettle is permitted, but please make use of the student house kitchens in general.
Study break
After the last day of school, the study break begins with exam study times, which will be announced in the student houses.
The study break is designed to create a balance between academic focus and social interaction, so the exam period becomes a combination of study environment and time spent with friends. All grade levels, except for 3rd-year students, stay at the school during the study break unless special circumstances apply. Practical details about the study break will be communicated through postings and the Parents intranet.
3rd-year students may partially spend the study break at home. However, they must inform their dorm teacher of their plans and return to school no later than the day before an exam.
We encourage boarding students to spend the exam period at school to foster community and create lasting memories. The school’s rules regarding clothing, meals, and bedtime also apply during this period.
IB students travel home after their last exam and return for the Student’s Cap Ceremony and graduation in June
Lending, trading and gambling
We discourage students from lending their belongings, but if, in exceptional cases, they lend clothes or other items to each other, both parties must be careful to return them to the owner. It is not allowed to borrow or lend money, and trading between students is NOT permitted. Any form of gambling for money is prohibited. This also applies to games involving buying, selling, or indirect exchange of money.
Candles and Tealights, Incense, Scented Candles, and Hookahs
It is NOT allowed to have candles or tealights in the room. The same applies to incense sticks and scented candles; hookahs are also not permitted.
Mail is distributed to students on all weekdays, except on Saturdays.
Packages can be picked up in the mailroom Monday to Friday. Students will receive an email notification when a package is ready for pickup. Packages cannot be picked up before you have received the notification from the courier.
It is also possible to use the PostNord parcel locker, which is located on the school grounds
Civil Registration, CPR, and Health Insurance
As an EU/EEA citizen, you must arrange for a residence permit/evidence before the start of school. Upon entering Denmark, you should bring the residence permit/evidence and contact the International Citizen Service in Copenhagen.
The address is:
International Citizen Service East
Gyldenløvesgade 11
1600 Copenhagen
Phone: +45 33 66 66 06
Email: east@citizen.dk
Here, registration will be completed with the address at Herlufsholm School, Herlufsholm Allé 170, 4700 Næstved, and a full CPR number and health card will be issued. When the health card is issued, it is important that the student is assigned to the school's doctor:
Lars Hagens,
Axeltorv 6D, 3
4700 Næstved
The Danish health card is not sufficient for students with parents living abroad, so it is necessary to supplement with the blue EU health insurance card, which should always be carried when traveling within the EU. Parents must request the blue EU health insurance card themselves. This is done digitally via borger.dk.
Dentist
Boarding students who do not have a registered address at the school are referred to dental treatment in their local municipality, unless the parents prefer a private dentist in Næstved at their own expense.
Boarding students under 18 years old who have a registered address at the school can be enrolled in Næstved Municipal Dental Care if the parents wish. Treatment is free, but we would like to note that Næstved Municipality has an appointment frequency of 20-22 months.
If parents of children under 16 years old prefer a private dentist, this will be at their own expense. Young people aged 16-18 can use municipal dental care but also have the right to choose a private dentist. The student will be called for treatment based on the dentist's assessment, and the expense will be reimbursed by the home municipality.
People over 18 years old must choose their own dentist, and the treatment will be at their own expense.
The school can assist in directing students to a private dentist and will remind students about scheduled dental appointments in municipal dental care or with their private dentist.
If a boarding student needs to go to the dentist in Næstved, they should remember the following:
- If your dental appointment is during school hours, you must inform the rector's office that you will be absent due to the dental appointment. STX/IB students must also report their absence in Lectio.
- If you are unable to attend the dental appointment at the scheduled time, you must inform the rector's office as soon as possible, after which the secretaries will assist you in rescheduling the appointment."
