Future boarding student
Admission to the boarding school
At Herlufsholm, boarding life becomes an option from 8th Grade when students are typically around 13-14 years old. This means that international students wishing to join our boarding school can apply from this age onwards.
Our educational system follows the Danish model, where the International Baccalaureate (IB) pathway begins with the Pre-IB year, equivalent to the first year of upper secondary school (1.g), when students are usually about 15-16 years old.
Please note that both the Danish upper secondary education (STX) and the middle school (grundskolen) are taught entirely in Danish. Only the Pre-IB and IB Diploma Programme are taught in English. For this reason, we recommend that international students who do not yet speak and understand Danish fluently wait to apply until they are old enough to enter the Pre-IB programme, at approximately age 15-16.
We invite you to a conversation on Teams, where we will briefly review our educational offerings and discuss the next steps in the potential admission process as a boarding student at Herlufsholm.
Applicants are admitted on a rolling basis.
Life as a boarding student
At Herlufsholm Boarding School, we strive to create a homely environment where teaching, extracurricular activities, and life on the student boarding houses form the framework for the daily life of our boarding students. If you choose to be a boarding student, the boarding house will become your home at school. Living with your peers creates a special sense of camaraderie, and boarding students also become an integrated part of the school simply through their presence. Although students are divided into smaller dorms, they come together for meals in the dining halls and participate in many joint activities. Boarding students are admitted from the upper grades of the lower school.
