The Daily Rhythm
Structure of the school year
The school year at Herlufsholm is structured slightly differently from many other danish schools.
A- and B-Weeks
Classes are scheduled over a timetable with 10 different school days divided into two types of weeks: A-weeks and B-weeks.
A-week: When the week’s lessons begin on Tuesday.
B-week: When the week’s lessons begin on Monday.
The distribution of school days and holidays can always be seen in the school’s annual calendar.
Midweekends and their acivities
Saturday is a normal school day for our students. Throughout the school year, the school organizes a variety of midweekend activities, including sports, cultural, and entertainment events, aimed at both the lower school and upper school. The school’s numerous events, activities, and parties are important for fostering friendship across year groups and classes.
Travel weekends
Travel weekends usually occur every other weekend, from Friday to Monday.
For day students, the travel weekend begins after the last lesson on Friday, and they return to school on Tuesday morning for their first lesson.
The daily schedule
All students have lunch in the school’s dining halls. Therefore, the daily schedule is structured so that lower school and upper school have staggered lunch breaks.
Daily meals
Lunch is always served as a buffet. At the start of the school year, upper school students are given a “mausekort” (meal card), which grants access to their designated lunch seating. If a student wishes to eat before or after their assigned time, it is acceptable to swap meal cards with a classmate for that day—just remember to get your own card back. Students who arrive without a meal card will be directed to eat during the second seating.
Meal plans are published once a week on Forældreintra.
