Sanctions for absence/lack of study activity
In relation to absence - physical and written - it is up to the school to assess whether the absence warrants sanctions. In such an assessment, considerations are made for patterns of illness, family circumstances, etc., as well as participation in events on/off the school premises that the student may have been selected for by the school. Note that the school may refuse a student's participation in an event citing participation in too many other activities/negligence.
Concerns regarding absence are initially addressed through personal contact. The school provides support to the student to the extent necessary and possible. If the absence persists, a warning may be issued - all students with warnings are subject to increased attention regarding any further sanctions. Additionally, the following sanction options may be implemented:
- Forfeiture of the right to participate in social and sports events organized by the school.
- Warning
- Enhanced warning
- Referral to take an exam in a specific subject, even if not drawn for examination
- Referral to take exams in all subjects
- Withdrawal of student financial aid (SU)
- Forfeiture of the right to be recommended for examination
- Denied promotion to the next grade level, ee.g., if the student's standing or achieved weighted average is below 02.
- For boarding students: forfeiture of the opportunity ot be a boarder, although still the opportunity to be a sudent at the school.
- Students may be designated as self-studying, meaning they lose the opportunity to attend classes, lose student financial aid, and must pay to take exams.
- Expulsion from the education (administrative withdrawal)
Any warnings, remarks, etc., will be noted in the absence protocol in Lectio and copies will be sent to parents/guardians and, for boarding students, also to dormitory supervisors.
This sanction policy is subject to Order no. 1338 of December 9, 2019, regarding study and order regulations, etc., in upper secondary education. All regulations of the order apply, even if not mentioned above.
Participation Hearing and Complaint Options
When the school makes a decision on the implementation of a sanction, provisions regarding participation hearing apply, so the student is informed of the information and assessments underlying the school's intended decision. The student will have the opportunity to make a statement before the school makes its final decision. The school sets a deadline for when the student must submit their statement. For students under 18 years of age, parents will be consulted.
The above does not apply to oral warnings.
