A school for those who want to know more, be more and achieve more
Welcome to an unusual and exciting school.
“Fear God, do right, and do not rely on people”. These are the words on the coat-of-arms on our School building. The words were said by Birgitte Gøye and meet all who come to Herlufsholm. They remind us that Herlufsholm is a school with a long and exciting history, and that the school rests on solid Danish humanistic values. The school was founded on 23 May 1565 as a school for sons of nobles and other honest people. The school would accommodate children of the nobility, but also other children who strove for learning and education.
Today Herlufsholm has students from 6th grade to the final 3g of High School. The students come from the local area and all of Denmark, and some even leave their homes abroad in order to take a solid education at Herlufsholm. We have day students and boarders, but in rather small classes with focus on a calm environment, high academic standard and well-being for the students.
There are nine student houses where the boarders live in small groups with a dormitory teacher and their family. This guarantees a closely knit and free and easy relationship, which creates strong friendships that for many last a lifetime.
Herlufsholm owns woodland and many green areas, and the students have ample opportunities to enjoy the calm atmosphere at Susåen (our river) or in the woods, or in the big park on the school grounds.
